Massive dream come true-eth! Dream Time with Zakia hosted our lucid Dreambiance Mix :) BBC 6 Music sabotage. Listen now on BBC Sounds here
Big love to Zakia, She was the first and few to play our first tunes on the radio when she hosted a show called Questing on NTS. This is how James Murphy heard our song Friends and how we ended up working with DFA so thanks Zakia and all the people who love stuff cus they love stuff. Definitely check out all her backlog of shows on BBC and NTS and get ready for her book coming out this year.
The intention behind this BBC 6 Dreambiance mix was to create a landscape of feverish hibernation and deep winter nostalgia. Hear lucid excavations from Freya, Moina and Death of the Jam Child (moina’s small sisters) on Comic Sans, Ostrich Necks and Jacuzzi’s. Many tracks in this mix feature homemade, lucid instruments made of washing machines and 3D printed flutes and pots and pans from the likes of Wojciech Rusin, Delia Derbyshire and Bear Kenchington. There are also many magical tracks we grew up listening to in the dark wintery, rural landscapes of our childhoods that feel shivery and mysterious. Also, note sounds from intimate relations with clangers and bony kings - haunts from the past that we can’t seem to shake. Was so amazing making this mix, it was a real vortex experience!
Here is the full Track List with notes
1 A Canterbury Tale - by Dreadzone (song listened to in deep winter as a kid, mysterious, dark, celestial)
Robins Waltz - played by Saul Bailey (Freya’s accordion inspiration)
Comic Sans - read by Freya Tate (Freya’s insightful late-night fever poem written at the top of the hill at Glastonbury Festival this year on Saturday night after running away from Block 9 back to the high grassy plains)
Death of the Jam Child - Death of the Jam Child - improvised song from a band of Moina’s 3 small sisters - Ayun ( Eye - yoon), Luna and Millan (Mee - Ann)
Music Box - Mermaid Chunky (music box used for tips at SVA club nights in Stroud)
Swedenborg in the Forest - Wojciech Rusin (amazing artist/musician friend who makes weird 3D-printed pipes that we play in Mermaid Chunky)
Interventions for Radio - The Dreams - by Delia Derbyshire, Barry Bermange & BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Love on Another Planet - Woo (from the album Into the Heart of Love that we often listen to before performing to get into a relaxed dream state. Also good to fall asleep too, a lucid experience.)

Sol Plural - Quixosis
Intro and Dialogue - Vernon Elliot - The Clangers (watched this vhs on repeat most days as a kid in a small room with grey wiery carpet filled with 70s animation VHS tapes)

Kacuzzi Dream - Millan Romero Walker (smallest sister)
Anne Has a Secret - In Flagranti
Wasted Call - Phyllis April King (a favourite poet that features on Ivor Cutler’s albums but is never named, really hypnotic funny poems)

Cubeskirl - Vernon & Burns (amazing, friendly Glasgow duo who do stuff with weird field recordings and weird instruments)
The Boney King of Nowhere - Sanda Kerr & John Faulkner - Bagpuss (very formative! Very dreamy!!)
a w w - Mermaid Chunky
Ostrich Neck Dream - Moina Moin (symbolic ostrich neck dream)
Zoë - Duke Hugh
Walking and Falling - CPI
Angel - Massive Attack (song listened to in deep winter as a kid, magical, mysterious. Also, one of the most memorable festival gigs Moina saw as a kid though slept in the dark on the wet grass throughout the whole thing but was still listening)
The Valleys - Electrelane (song from fairy godmother mixtape, listened to on road trips in loads of snow in france with a friend who brought loads of jumpers with her in tiny car and an unfriendly cat called turtle - because it was so snowy we ended up being redirected to a french boarding school where we got fed cured meats and met a rabbit called cat. Moina also won a card game even though she does not speak French and was a child at the time who had never played cards before.
